How to interview a Tarot deck!

So you've bought your first or your tenth or your hundredth Tarot deck...what next? Are you the kind of person who immediately unwraps and unboxes, gives it a few shuffles, and does a reading right away? Or are you the kind of person who waits a few days before even removing the cards from the box, smudges it, lays crystals on it, lets it bathe in the light of the full moon, and then carefully examines each and every card before even dreaming of shuffling? No matter where you fall on that spectrum, a deck interview can help you get to know your a deck, get a feel for its energy, and what questions or situations it might be best suited for.

Here's a sample deck interview that I conducted with my Dreaming Way Tarot deck:
Picture
  1. Tell me about yourself - Ace of Swords: I have new ideas and I cut straight to the heart of the matter. No beating around the bush, no BS, and though the truth might hurt, it needs to be heard.
  2. What are your strengths? - Three of Swords: I provide clear guidance and understanding especially to the heartbroken, anyone who has suffered an emotional trauma or loss, or people who are struggling with painful memories.
  3. What are your weaknesses? - The Star: I can only provide answers if you work with me carefully and closely. You'll only get out what you put in. I may provide hope and inspiration and thereby create dependence. You'll need to act on what you learn with me before you read with me again.
  4. What are you here to teach me? - Nine of Pentacles: I'm here to teach you that you already have what you need, and to be happy knowing that it's already all within you. It has always been there, and I'll help you bring it out.
  5. How can I best collaborate with you? - Temperance: We can bring calm to emotionally-charged situations and we can help those in deep distress. We'll bring a groundedness and stability to our readings together.
  6. What is the potential of our relationship? - Eight of Swords: We can empower those in emotional pain with a fresh perspective and rational clarity. We can help them go within to find the answers they seek.
After working with this deck for almost two years now, I can say that this has all panned out. It's not the dreamy deck I thought it would be, but it's been great for clear answers on emotional issues, and who doesn't need that! Please ask questions and leave comments below.

Love,
TarotMama
